1st XI Match Report 13 July 2019

Report by Will Hill

Having lifted the Coronation Cup for the second year running the night before, there was the danger of a hangover or two within the firsts who were seeking to get back to winning ways in the league. Saturday saw us host Ware as the season went into its second half. Having lost the toss PECC were put into bat and jimmy and Harry got us off to a good start putting on 77 for the opening stand until Paul gave his son out LBW!! The middle overs proved hard to get away as the Ware bowlers bowled well throughout the innings. A procession of middle order batsman tried to push the total to over 200 but we closed on 191, jimmy top scored with a well made 61. We were still highly confident we could defend 191 and that proved the case early on as the opening bowlers reduced Ware to 3 for 3 off 3 overs. There were some partnerships throughout the innings but they never looked like chasing the total. A 9th wicket partnership got Ware towards the 150 mark and it looked like we weren’t going to take all 10 wickets until on came Colin Territt to bowl the last picking up one bowled and a run out off the last ball! Wickets were shared out between the regular bowlers (3, hyland & Gurney and 2 for Hill) but 9 players managed to turn their arm over at some stage. So PECC won by 38 runs and stay top of the table, we head to Flitwick next week.
