Redemption for Haseeb, plus don’t mention averages!

The league took us to Stevenage on Sat, where  the toss was won and a steady yet unspectacular start saw PE reach 70-0 at drinks. This put the boys in a position to propel the score in excess of 200, and after Harry ‘the monk’ Lee had himself stumped and Jimmy ‘the flawed genius’ Pickard run himself out shortly after drinks, Haseeb and Az moved serenely towards a competitive score. Haseeb ‘the redeemer’ Ashraf the only batsman of the day to make scoring look straightforward with even Az ‘tuk-tuk’ Akhtar struggling for rhythm. This was duly commented on by the Monk in between innings with talk of averages being thrown into the mix and resulted in a furious Az setting upon a “fat” Harry Lee. I think it was one of the oppo who came off worse, as he was pushed backwards on to the scorers table where a meticulous Will Hill was arguing to the scorer how he was in fact not given run out off the last ball and how his average was now in excess of 40. After everyone had kissed and made up 90 seconds later and the necessary apologies had been made, a non threatening run chase ensued with Ian ‘the brain’ Dyde doing particularly well on his promotion to the firsts and ensuring a 70 run victory
