2nd XI Match Report 24 Aug 2019

On a hot Saturday afternoon the 2’s travelled to Redbourn for the must win match. The venue was the recreation centre and the wicket looked a green top and had a fair amount of grass on it. The skipper was in 2 minds what to do. Fortunately the decision was taken out of his hands when he lost the toss and we were inserted. Out of the top order only Pete made a notable contribution before getting a leading edge and dobbing one up for 35. But the day was saved as Wizzer aka Steve Fowles started to smash the bowling around, mainly to the leg side for his maiden 50 for the club that included a huge 6, a great performance The innings closed in the 40th over all out 186. Ian and Jonny opened the bowling but with the sun high and directly in the batsman’s eyeline,  an early change to Dave Hill was in order and proved a good change, bowling an 8 over spell going for very little runs and picking up wickets. Jonny tied up the other end to strangle the batsmens run rate. Ian came back from the bottom end up the hill for a great spell and the ball of the day pitching and moving away to take the top of off stump, absolute Jaffa. New man Courtney Wise came on having not bowled for  9 years –  was always going to be rusty but produced a good spell and picked up his first wicket for the club and could be a really good asset to the 2’s. The man of the day Wizzer was brought on to bowl…..enough said really. Steve wise bowled a good spell troubling the batsman, every ball was an event, finally closing the Redbourn innings all out for 107. A great win and fantastic to see Wizzer’s first 50
